Sheryl A. Kingsberg is a clinical psychologist and Professor in the Department of Reproductive Biology at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, and is the chief of the division of behavioral medicine in the department of OB/GYN at Case Medical Center, University Hospitals of Cleveland.Dr. Kingsberg is a past president of the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH) and is an active member in numerous other national and international organizations including the American Psychological Association (APA), the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), the Society for Sex Therapy and Research (SSTAR) and the North American Menopause Society (NAMS).

Bio
Dr. Goldstein has been involved with sexual dysfunction research since the late 1970's. His interests include penile microvascular bypass surgery, surgery for dyspareunia, sexual health management post cancer treatment, physiologic investigation of sexual function in men and women, and diagnosis and treatment of sexual dysfunction in men and women. Dr. Goldstein has authored more than 350 publications in the field of sexual dysfunction, and edited books on erectile dysfunction and on women’s sexual health. He is also Editor-in-Chief of Sexual Medicine Reviews and past Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of Sexual Medicine, official journals of the International Society for Sexual Medicine, its regional affiliate societies, and the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health. Dr. Goldstein is Director of Sexual Medicine at Alvarado Hospital, Clinical Professor of Surgery at University of California at San Diego and Director of San Diego Sexual Medicine where he maintains his clinical practice.Dr. Goldstein holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Brown University, with an honors thesis in biomedical engineering. In 1975, he graduated from McGill University Faculty of Medicine in his hometown of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He was on the faculty of Boston University School of Medicine for 25 years where he was Professor of Urology and Gynecology and founding Director of the former Institute for Sexual Medicine at BUSM. Dr. Goldstein is currently President of The Institute for Sexual Medicine, Inc., a charitable corporation for education and research in the field. He is President of the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health, a former President of the Sexual Medicine Society of North America, a member of the International Society for Sexual Medicine, the International Academy of Sex Research, the American Urological Association, the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists, and the International Society for the Study of Vulvovaginal Disease. The World Association for Sexual Health awarded the Gold Medal to Dr. Goldstein in 2009 in recognition of his lifelong contributions to the field, in 2012 he received the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health Award for Distinguished Service in Women’s Sexual Health, in 2013 the Sexual Medicine Society of North America awarded him their Lifetime Achievement Award and in 2014 he received the ISSM Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Society for Sexual Medicine.

Statement of Need/Program Overview
This activity is designed to raise awareness and knowledge of current GSM, VVA and dyspareunia diagnostic and treatment gaps while providing insights into the attitudes and perceptions of postmenopausal women suffering with these conditions. The impact of physiologic and morphologic vulvovaginal changes and the strengths and limitations of traditional estrogen-based treatments will be discussed.

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
- Express the physical, psychological, and interpersonal burden resulting from the symptoms of Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM), Vulvovaginal atrophy (VVA), dyspareunia and Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD)

(1) Defining the postmenopausal vulvovaginal syndrome related to loss of sex steroids
(2) Understanding the attitudes and perceptions of postmenopausal women as well as the barriers to effective patient-healthcare practitioner dialogue
(3) The physiologic, histologic and morphologic changes characteristic of vulvovaginal atrophy and the genitourinary syndrome of menopause
(4) Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD) and Dyspareunia after menopause
(5) Traditional estrogen treatments and treatment gaps

Method of Participation
There are no fees for participating in and receiving credit for this activity.
